Indiscretion Review

Merry Christmas everybody! I want to give my roommate, Danielle, a super big shout out for getting me this book. It was a great read. Thank you!

If I had known how this book would end, I wouldn’t have reviewed it for the day after Christmas so I’m very sorry. Also quick disclaimer, Indiscretion by Charles Dubow is a contemporary fiction novel with many romantic elements, not necessarily a romance novel.

The main character of this book is Maddy and she actually has a very small role in it. The narrator Walter, is hopelessly in love with Maddy almost to the point of obsession (he’s a really nice guy and basically the definition of the friend zone). Maddy is married to Harry and they have a son together. They seem to be totally in love and have a perfect life. Then the family meets Claire who is strongly attracted to Harry and his charisma. This leads to an affair that drives appart Maddy and Harry’s marriage. The rest of the book is Walter trying to understand Maddy’s life and what went wrong.

This book kinda sounds similar to the Great Gatsby, just in the way it reads and that Walter is very Nick Carraway-esque. And the whole first section could fit right in to the world that Fitzgerald created. I really liked this book and had a good time reading it. The Great Gatsby is one of my all time favorite books and this book was very similar. It is a good read and even though it’s not technically a romance novel there are some very passionate parts. It was a good read and I highly recommend it.
