“Every color has its own characteristics and each color induces different feelings.”– Lois Wexner (1954)

It is now well-known that different colors have different impacts on your emotions and moods. For example, yellow is associated with happiness and blue with sadness. But what does that mean as far as color trends?

Every year Pantone chooses a color of the year. In 2016, the colors are Rose Quartz and Serenity. You can check them out here: http://www.pantone.com/color-of-the-year-2016! According to Pantone.com this years colors, “demonstrate an inherent balance between a warmer embracing rose tone and the cooler tranquil blue, reflecting connection and wellness as well as a soothing sense of order and peace.”

These colors, a rose and light blue are typically associated with hope and calmness.  If you’ve ever heard the term “looking through rose-colored glasses” you were really hearing that a person remembers fondly the past or only sees the good parts of life. This year Pantone’s choice of Rose Quartz is meant to bring in some hope and positivity in a world plagued with turbulent chaos. Serenity on the other hand, is a pale blue tone. This color is soothing to viewers and wearers. The two colors combined, something that has never been done before as far as colors of the year go, promote peace and hope. Two things that are desperately needed in our world.
